WHY HIGH PLANT-BASED?

In our experience, dietary dogmas often lack flexibility or may be interpreted to suit. On the other hand they may be ambiguous. We know vegetarians who don't eat vegetables! And vegans who often consume, in our opinion, too much sugar, grains and soy. 'Raw foodies' who have an excess of dates (concentrated sugar), nuts, coconut oil and refuse to eat warm, healing foods in winter even though their bodies crave it. Paleo enthusiasts who are anti legumes and consume an excess of meat as well as bacon and pork. Although short term studies of the Keto diet appear positive 'longer-term studies conducted on animals have shown the high fat diet may be associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and heart-related problems.' Dr Axe.

In saying this, many dietary dogmas have fabulous aspects to them and if done well, with an individualised approach, can be very successful. Ultimately, the world agrees we need to eat more plants! Having done extensive research, into how we can maximise nutrients in our food, we believe that one of the most powerful steps you can take to improve your health, alkalise, boost energy levels, balance your hormones, support your body to heal and potentially prevent chronic dis-ease is to transition to a fresh, seasonal, organic,  'High plant-based' simply means a way of eating that includes more vegetables, fruits, non-gluten grains, legumes, sea vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, and minimally processed foods that are as close to their original form as possible. Plants are rich sources of phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein, unsaturated fats and antioxidants - all vital for good health. A high plant-based way of eating, not only has the potential to heal our bodies, but also the environment.

It's important to know that eating a high plant-based diet doesn't mean you have to become a vegetarian or vegan. The reality is, some blood types are designed to eat a small amount of animal protein - so foods like meat, fish and eggs aren’t off-limits, they just take a back seat to eating lots of unprocessed plant foods. Aim for your plate to be 80% plant-based and limit animal protein to 20% or less. It's also essential to add in good quality fats like olive/coconut oil, avocado, fish eg wild caught salmon/sardines, nuts and seeds etc. There isn’t necessarily one 'plant-based diet' in existence today, but rather dozens of different variations that stem from cultures found all around the world. Our sugar, dairy and gluten-free variation to a high plant based diet is explained in our Lifestyle & Nutritional Guide which you can download in Module 2. By the end of the program you may have your own variation to the guide as you learn more about the concept of bio-individuality.

Before you tuck in consider, even when eating fresh, wholesome food, to "eat slowly and mindfully until you are 80% full" - a practice called Hara Hachi Bu.  This is a tradition of the Okinawans, indigenous people of the Ryukyu islands in Japan and one of the keys to longevity and sustainable weight management (if that is a goal). This cultural practice is part of the reasons why Okinawa has a higher percentage of centenarians than anywhere else in the world.

If you have any 'foodie' questions don't hesitate to ask Tanya in the community forum. She is passionate about inspiring people to transition to a nutrient dense way of eating that they grow to love!

Tanya has changed the way I look at food & how I shop for food in a completely new way.  This change has only added massive improvement to my lifestyle.  Nothing else has impacted me when it comes to food like Tanya has.  She has opened my eyes to a better way of living through understanding more about REAL food, where it comes from, what it does to my body & why.  Tanya modified recipes to my specific needs, which were easy to follow & delicious.  Both me & my body cant thank you enough Tanya!

I just want to say a huge thank you to Tanya for coming over to give me an amazing cooking lesson. I really needed it, I struggle with lunches and felt so uninspired with food but after spending the day with Tanya in my kitchen I have found a whole new enthusiasm for wholesome food. We made 3 super smoothies that also made yummy chia puddings (that Gracie loves) 2 amazing salads that we have already made again to share with friends, the best pesto ever and energy bites! If you are looking for some food inspiration and education I can't recommend Tanya enough!

"Your fork is the most powerful tool to transform your health and change the world. Food is the most powerful drug on the planet. It can improve the expression of thousands of genes, balance dozens of hormones, optimise tens of thousands of protein networks, reduce inflammation, and optimise your microbiome (gut flora) with every single bite. It can cure most chronic diseases; it works faster, better, and cheaper than any drug ever discovered and the only side effects are good ones: prevention, reversal, and even treatment of disease, not to mention vibrant optimal health."
